A new National Assembly and each province's provincial legislature will be chosen in the 2024 general elections in South Africa. Since the end of apartheid in 1994, these elections will be the seventh to be held with universal adult suffrage. At the first session of each province legislature, the new National Council of Governments will be chosen.

Following the municipal elections in 2021, several scenarios were drafted to examine what may occur if the ANC received 50% or less of the national vote in 2024. “We may need to revise some of our presumptions considering the municipal elections result because of how poorly the ANC responded and how ineffectively the government has been acting.” Said Stephen Grootes of Daily Maverick.
